Some people shy away from organising days out with the family, but here at GoLark we think planning such occasions can be easier than you might imagine. And, more importantly, it can be fun! Here are a few tips to help you create unforgettable memories without increasing the stress levels.
It’s all fine and peachy, when you’re down at the beachy
When the sun’s shining and everyone has their own idea of the perfect days out, you can’t go wrong with time spent at the beach. There’s something for each of you to enjoy, from swimming and water sports to paddling and picnicking, and of course if you want to settle back on a sunbed and catch some rays, that’s fine, too. East and West Sussex days out on the coast are always exceptional, but don’t forget to pack the sunscreen, hats, towels, toys and, if the kids are particularly messy, a change of clothes.
Sometimes we’re pining, for some al fresco dining
Occasionally, a days out guide will overlook something as basic as a picnic in the park, but with so many wonderful outdoor spaces in the region we feel it’s a powerful temptation. Pack up some delicious foods and refreshing cold drinks, not forgetting individual treats for each of the kids, and you’re good to go. A selection of sporting equipment will keep the youngsters occupied, and it’s a good idea to include a picnic blanket and a bag for collecting all the rubbish when you’re done.
It’ll do you no harm, to spend time on the farm
Take a look in any Sussex tourism guide and you’ll see a variety of farms that are open to the public. Some will be more like amusement parks for youngsters, as is the case with Fishers Farm Park, for example, while others will be fully working farms that offer less in the way of activities. Which you choose is up to you, but be sure to bring sunscreen, hats, sensible footwear and perhaps a basket for when you purchase all that yummy fresh produce from the shop.
Maybe solve a little mystery? Or delve into some history?
Keeping the kids engaged isn’t always easy on a day out, but it is when they have something to focus on. Treasure trails are an excellent way to seek and solve clues in a range of towns and cities across the region, so if you like the idea of becoming detectives for the day, this could be ideal for you. Again, comfortable footwear is a must, and perhaps bring some food and water in a backpack. You might also want to provide a prize for the little ones should they solve the mystery.
You won’t need your salaries, when you check out these galleries
Our GoLark team features a number of dedicated culture vultures, and we’re delighted by the cross-section of fabulous museums and art galleries in the area, many of which are completely free. They range from the niche – Museum of Gardening, anyone? – to the iconic, such as the Brighton City Airport Museum and the excellent Worthing Museum and Gallery. Bring the kids and fire their imagination, and be sure to bring notepads and a camera for them, as well as a well-deserved snack or two, of course.
