Brighton City Airport Museum

Brighton City Airport Museum

A plane from the golden age of flying

Officially opened in 1911 and one of the world’s oldest airports, Brighton City Airport is located in Shoreham. The museum is dedicated to keeping alive the memories of the very early days of aviation, and as a result it’s a magnet for anyone who has an interest in the history of flight.

These days, the airport itself is a busy centre for pilot training, pleasure flights and for charter plane and helicopter flights. The museum itself, is home to a wealth of fascinating displays and exhibits dedicated to the history of this facility and of aviation in general. It’s located within the iconic 1930s Art Deco terminal building, and as well as the exhibits there are regular talks and presentations available.

Formerly known as Shoreham Airport, this excellent West Sussex venue offers an intriguing day out for all ages. The UK’s oldest airport, it also saw activity in both the First and Second World Wars.

You’ll find some wonderful food and drink options – not to mention fabulous views of the planes and helicopters taking off and landing – at the Hummingbird Restaurant, also located in the historic terminal building. It’s easy to see why Brighton City Airport Museum is perfect for days out that are rich in history.
