The South of England Agricultural Society was founded in 1967, and one of its aims is to encourage interest and involvement in agriculture, horticulture and other land-based activities. It runs a number of important and enjoyable occasions, and the annual South of England Show is perhaps its flagship. Across the three days of the event, more than 60,000 people attend each year.
The show is held at the famous showground in Ardingly, to the north of Haywards Heath, usually in June. If you spend a day out here, you can expect to see a wide range of attractions, including the likes of international showjumping, heavy horse parades, falconry displays, live entertainment, rural crafts, motocross stunt displays, vintage agricultural machinery exhibitions, scurry racing and so much more. Many people find that a day spent here is simply not enough.
As well as these activities, the South of England Show is also an important shopping opportunity, so get ready for some serious retail therapy while you’re here. Country clothing, footwear, jewellery, pet supplies, garden furniture and hot tubs are just some of the products you can find. And be sure to bring your hunger pangs with you, because there are plenty of hot and cold food outlets waiting to refresh you and your party.
