Shoreham Harbour Lifeboat Station

Shoreham Harbour Lifeboat Station

Ideal For... Physically Impaired
Lifeboat at sea

The seas around England’s southern coast may appear to be tranquil and safe most of the time, but the harsh truth is that they can present a great many dangers to both amateur seafarers and commercial sailors. As we all know, the brave men and women of the RNLI are always ready and waiting to help those in peril.

The wonderful Shoreham Harbour Lifeboat Station offers a fascinating (and completely free) insight into this hugely impressive service. For more than 170 years, lifeboat operators from here have been saving lives. In the early days, the boat was 30 feet in length and powered by 12 oars. These days, the station is home to the Enid Collett, a Tamar Class craft and the Joan Woodland, a D Class inflatable lifeboat. These beautiful vessels can be viewed at the station, unless of course they are out saving lives, of course.

Come along soon and view the boats and facilities, and you may get to meet some of the crew members, too. Shoreham Harbour Lifeboat Station is also home to a shop selling a fantastic range of RNLI-themed gifts and clothing.

This excellent facility is open throughout the year, and is located in the heart of Shoreham Harbour, close to the lighthouse where the River Adur meets the English Channel.
