If you like the idea of getting up close and personal to iconic planes and spectacular helicopters, you’re going to want to spend time at the wonderful Redhill Aerodrome. Located in the heart of the Surrey countryside and within easy reach of Croydon, Reigate and Crawley, this exceptional facility has existed as an airfield since the 1930s, when it was used as an occasional alternative to Croydon Airport, the first such venue for international travelers in London.
These days, it operates as a base for civilian aircraft and is also used by companies offering flying lessons in both planes and helicopters. In addition, you’ll find a range of pleasure flight options at Redhill Aerodrome, including an opportunity to see the skies from a biplane. If you’ve ever wanted to enjoy a bird’s eye view of Surrey, this is surely the place to be.
And if all you want to do is just settle back and watch the aircraft taking off and landing, that’s fine, too. There are spaces to sit here and savour the fresh air, and while away the laziest of lazy days. You will also doubtless want to seek out some delicious refreshments at the Hangar 9 Café, where you’ll find everything from light bites to full-on feasts. Be sure to check out the flight memorabilia in the café and the glorious aircraft in the adjacent hangar.
