The town of Newhaven has a rich and varied history, much of it focussing on its relationship with the sea, of course. And for those who wish to find out more about it, we highly recommend the excellent Newhaven Museum, a facility that will be of interest to both locals and visitors alike. It’s pleasing to know that the town is able to highlight its heritage for all to see.
The collections at Newhaven Museum have come from private individuals, local businesses and regional councils. They feature a fascinating selection of over 20,000 photographs, curios, archive materials, paintings, aerial maps, artifacts and more. Many items pertain to prominent local companies and endeavours, such as the RNLI, the Parker Pen Company, the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway and the Newhaven-Dieppe ferry.
You’ll find Newhaven Museum in Paradise Park, so it’s easy to include a visit while exploring and enjoying everything that the town has to offer. For young and old alike, it’s a venue that offers so much.
