There are times when nothing beats a lovely walk in the countryside, and our region has so many wonderful locations for enjoying the great outdoors. One of the finest walks is to be found at the excellent Langley Vale Centenary Woodland, which is located in Surrey, within easy reach of Epsom, Chessington, Banstead and Leatherhead.
You can choose between two wonderful walks here. The Remembrance Way Trail is just over 3km in length, while the longer Downs View Trail is some 4.5km. Scattered along the trails are picnic benches offering pleasant views of the surrounding area, so be sure to pack a picnic and make the most of your day. There’s a pay and display car park nearby for your convenience.
Langley Vale Centenary Woodland was created to commemorate the centenary of the First World War, and it’s home to a number of memorials and sculptures dedicated to those who gave their lives in the conflict. Since becoming established, it has evolved into a haven for wildflowers, insects and birds, so keep a close eye open for cuckoos, lapwings and more. The Poppy Play Area is a particular favourite for the children. Later, if you’re in need of refreshments, you’ll find several pubs and restaurants just a short drive away.
