You can see the wonderful Jack and Jill windmills from many vantage points in the south-east of England, and the good news for history fans is that the wonderful Jill Windmill is open to the public. This lovingly restored landmark offers one of the best days out in West Sussex, so make sure it’s on your must-see list.
Standing proudly on the South Downs just above the village of Clayton, the Jill Windmill is a traditional 19th century corn mill. Grade II-listed and understandably popular with all age groups, the views enjoyed from here of the Sussex Weald are spectacular, and as such it offers a memorable photo opportunity.
As a working mill, Jill had been built in the 1820s and was in operation until 1906. It was damaged in a 1908 storm but is now back to its former glory. Generally, the Jill Windmill is open to visitors on Sundays throughout the summer.
May – September (Only opened on Sundays)
