Horsham Museum and Art Gallery

A highly regarded facility that's free to enter, Horsham Museum and Art Gallery has been collecting important artefacts and more since the 1890s. It's located close to the centre of town, and is within easy reach of Crawley, Haywards Heath and Burgess Hill.

There are plenty of highlights to be found here, including a recreation of the world's first revolutionary gaol, which was built in Horsham in 1775. Fossils and flints from the Paleolithic, Neolithic and Roman times are also understandably popular.

You can also enjoy a fascinating insight into how life and work have changed over the centuries. Be sure to check out items relating to local brewing and brick making activities, and you can also see a sizable collection of clothing from over the years.

Outside, there's a tranquil garden that offers the perfect spot for a little rest and relaxation. You can also take a look at a selection of historic bicycles and, perhaps best of all, the 1858 Shand Fire Engine, a genuine Victorian gem.

Horsham Museum and Art Gallery also features a fabulous range of paintings from a wide selection of artists. The Watercolour Gallery is a particular favourite, as it contains a regularly changing collection of paintings by local artists.
