Located close to Guildford and within easy reach of the whole county, Hatchlands Park is a historic country house venue in Surrey that was bequeathed to the National Trust in 1945. These days, it’s a popular choice for those seeking a day out with a rich sense of heritage. The house itself was built in the 1750s, but the surrounding park was mentioned in the 11th century Domesday Book.
These days, visitors can wander freely around the 400 acres of rolling parkland and woodland, soaking up the tranquil surroundings of one of the region’s largest country estates. There’s even a natural adventure area on the grounds, so the little ones can have fun and let off steam at the same time.
And of course, you’ll want to explore the house while you’re here, too. Hatchlands Park is home to some magnificent Robert Adam interiors, bringing you a golden opportunity to understand just why the property is so highly regarded. Be sure to also check out the Cobbe Collection, which consists of more than 40 historic musical instruments, some of which were played by the likes of Purcell, Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin and Elgar.
No doubt you and your party will also want to refuel while you’re here, so be sure to add a visit to the Coach House Café to your itinerary. After all, everyone needs to stop and smell the coffee every once in a while, don’t they?
