One of the UK’s finest cities and possibly the greatest seaside resort of them all, Brighton’s wonderful heritage and iconic position in the art world is celebrated in style right here. If you’re a fan of culture in all its forms, you could easily spend a whole day at the Brighton Museum & Art Gallery. Perhaps the only difficult decision will involve making plans to see everything that it has to offer.
How about going back in time – way, way, back – to the earliest local residents? The Elaine Evans Archaeology Gallery focuses on the period between the Ice Age and the days of the Saxons, and includes vital information on seven specific individuals. From there, head to the museum’s Ancient Egypt collection, which also offer hands-on activities for the children.
Brighton Museum & Art Gallery is home to an excellent range of artworks, from old masters right through to contemporary creations. It also features temporary exhibitions that are always popular with visitors. Another must-see here is the huge collection of photographs that chronicles the history and diversity of the city. Exhibits relate to the Regency period, the Victorians who day-tripped their way to the seaside, the flamboyance of the local architecture, the mods and rockers of the 1960s and Brighton’s evolution into one of the world’s most influential gay capitals.
