  • Almost half the world's bluebells are found in the UK and Sussex bluebell woods are some of the best in Britain!
  • Bluebells are an indicator of ancient woodlands and take a long time to establish, around 5-7 years from seed to flower.
  • They can take years to recover after footfall damage.
  • It is against the law to intentionally pick, uproot or destroy bluebells.

 

We absolutely love Blackbrook Wood, a firm favourite here at GoLark! It can be hard to find with a hidden entrance on Middleton Common Lane between Spatham Lane and Streat Lane but absolutely worth the time to explore. Just be mindful that this woodland is private and to admire the bluebells responsibly by using the footpath to avoid damaging the flowers. As you continue on the footpath, further on, the forest opens up and you will be able to get closer to the flowers as you join lots of walkways in different directions. By being careful not to walk on the bluebells, we can all enjoy them again next year.

It's mostly flat so fairly accessible with those with mobility challenges.

For parking close by, there are spaces past Spatham Lane if you're coming from Burgess Hill or Ditchling.

There is the free car park at Ditchling Common.
