There are times when we all feel the need to get away from the tensions and traumas, in order to recharge those all-important batteries of life. Thankfully, those of us who live and work locally know there are some wonderful days out in East Sussex just waiting to be discovered. If you’re in the mood to seek out something of a hidden gem, the GoLark team would highly recommend the tranquil beauty of Barcombe Mills.
Located in a peaceful setting close to the village of Barcombe Cross, this is an important haven for wildlife. The River Ouse is to be found here, so if you enjoy soothing walks with idyllic views of the water, this is the place to be. There are some excellent fishing spots along the river, and you’ll also find a former toll bridge that still displays prices in pre-decimal money.
And when you feel you’ve done enough exploring for the moment, you’ll be pleased to know there’s a popular pub nearby. It offers plenty of drink options and a great range of menu items if you’re hungry. You’ll also find – unusually for a pub, of course – that you can hire a boat from here and explore the river more thoroughly. On a summer’s afternoon, there surely can’t be many more iconic activities in the whole region.
You’ll find Barcombe Mills in the heart of East Sussex, close to Ringmer. It’s easily accessible from Uckfield, Lewes and Newhaven and the pub is open seven days a week.
