Relax the mind and refresh the spirit at one of the region’s fabulous cafés

There are times in life, and for most of us they are few and far between, when you just want to get away from the hustle and bustle. The pressures of work and home can leave you completely stressed out, and when that happens what do you usually do? Find a quiet chair in the library and read a book? Take the dog for a walk well away from the rat race? Go back to bed and wait until your mojo comes back?

These are all good options, of course, but there’s one that brings you some much-needed You Time and comes with the added bonus of refreshment. We’re talking cafés, of course, and here in Surrey and Sussex there are plenty of them just waiting to help you unwind. All you have to do is order some sustenance and find a tranquil corner. The friendly staff will then leave you alone to recover. They’ll understand…

Finding the one that really cuts the mustard

Of course, every café you visit will offer something different. It could be the quality of the coffee, the comfort of the seating, the noise levels of the clientele or a hundred other factors that need to be taken into consideration. One thing we can all be sure of, however, is that once you find the place that ticks all the right boxes, you’ll want to come back over and over again. In time, that particular place will become your sanctuary.

Cafés in Surrey and Sussex offer so much in the way of a welcome, so make sure you explore the choices when you get the chance. Of course, you’ll find plenty of the usual options in high streets throughout the region, but why not try something a little different? Perhaps Pooh Corner, with its fabulous links to everyone’s favourite bear, should be on your agenda? Or how about spending some quality time with our feline friends at the Mad Catter Cat Café in Eastbourne?

Something to suit all tastes

In Epsom, you can rest awhile at the wonderful Mayfield Lavender Gift Shop & Coffee Bar, where, as the name suggests, you can also enjoy some lavender-themed retail therapy. And your tea and toast at the Jam Café in Chichester will have added feel-good factor because of the good causes the venue supports. We love the diversity offered by all the Surrey and Sussex days out that are available, partly because the eateries offer just as much in the way of choice.

Needless to say, the restaurants, diners and cafés throughout the region are also just as welcoming to larger groups, so if you’re enjoying a day out with all the family be sure to stop awhile and smell (and taste!) the coffee. These are the moments in life when you can truly relax, and while doing so you can reflect on days well spent with those who matter most. Slice of home-made cake, anyone?
