Lark about and play in the merry, merry month of May

There’s an extra little buzz in the air when the month of May comes around, and it gives the GoLark team a certain spring in the step and a pleasing smile on the face. There are several reasons for this, including the fact that May makes us feel like it’s somewhere between the middle of spring and the start of summer. Every single day brings more sunlight than the previous one, the flowers are blooming, the birds are singing and everyone seems happy. Add in the fact that we have two bank holidays to enjoy and it’s easy to see why many people think this is the best month of them all.

So, with May coming along, what do you plan to do? As always, the intrepid GoLarkers have plenty of suggestions to pass on, from historic castles and beautiful gardens to exciting activities and moments for reflection. The choice is yours, of course, but if you haven’t made your mind up here are a few options to consider.

Go back in time and explore

From discovering more about the Romans at Fishbourne Palace to going back in time to the golden days of aviation at Brighton City Airport Museum, there really is something for everyone to enjoy in the region. National Trust favourites such as Petworth House and Clandon House are rightly popular with history buffs and the children will love the exhibits at the excellent Brighton Toy and Model Museum.

Get out and about

Sometimes there’s nothing better than getting out in the open air, and of course May is the perfect time to do so. And with so many superb al fresco days out in West Sussex, East Sussex and Surrey to discover, you really are spoilt for choice. Perhaps the glorious Birling Gap and Seven Sisters is the ideal place to start, with breathtaking views and invigorating sea air. Or how about Box Hill in Surrey? Or maybe the iconic Long Man of Wilmington deserves to be on your agenda instead?

Fabulous farms for you and the family

This area is blessed with a great selection of farms that are perfect for Sussex and Surrey days out with the children. Godstone Farm, Fishers Farm Park, Hobbledown Adventure Farm and Washbrooks Farm are just some of the excellent venues that are waiting to be discovered. See the animals, ride the tractors, enjoy the walks and, crucially, savour a coffee while the little ones let off some steam at the soft play. What more could you possibly want?

Be a good sport

For some people, sporting activities are an absolute must, especially when the weather is kind. May seems to be the perfect time for paddleboarding at Buzz Active, footgolf in Brighton, dinghy sailing at Ardingly Activity Centre or dry-slope skiing at Sandown Sports Club. And of course, you can always escape the rain that comes along by testing your golfing skills indoors at Globalls, channelling your inner Joe Root at Sixes Social Cricket or reaching for the heights at Guildford’s Blue Spider Climbing

They call it the merry, merry month of May for some very good reasons, but the team at GoLark also consider it to be the magical, magical month of May as well. For anyone who likes to explore, this is truly a wonderful time of the year. Our advice to everyone is simple: Go on, Get out. GoLark about. You MAY just love every single moment!
