Earlswood Lakes

When you find an idyllic, tranquil spot close to one of the area’s most buzzing towns, you just know it’s going to be special. After all, what could be more convenient than wide open spaces just a short walk from a hive of activity? If you live close to the Surrey town of Reigate, chances are you already know just how pleasant it is to spend a day at the wonderful Earlswood Lakes. 

Located on the road that connects Redhill with Reigate, this is a popular spot for walking, bird-watching and just sitting down to watch the world go by. Earlswood Lakes is part of Earlswood Common, and consists of two sizable lakes. Local wildlife to be seen in the area includes roe deer, foxes, rabbits, toads, frogs and a wide range of birds and insects. 

The lower lake, the older of the two, dates back at least as early as 1363, and the common itself has evidence of human activity from the Bronze Age. These days, the common and the lakes serve as a very pleasant reminder that getting away from the general hubbub is as important as it’s always been.
